Stephan Mazurek was born in Fairmont, West Virginia. He studied European Literature and Theater at University of Kent (Canterbury, England) and Southern Methodist University (Dallas, Texas). He lives in Chicago.
His interest lies in exploring and creating visual forms ranging from designing video projections for theatrical events to long-form documentary films to commercials to photography.
As a Director of Photography for Documentaries his client list includes: Siskel and Jacobs, The Discovery Channel, the National Geographic Channel, BBC, HBO, The Travel Channel, The Food Network, Media Process Group, LMNO Productions, ESPN, Leopard Films, Bombo and many more. Some of his commercial clients include: Miller, Nikon, The Museum of Science and Industry, Johnson and Johnson, Jockey, Got Milk, McDonalds, and the Illinois Bureau of Tourism.
Theater Credits: For Walkabout Theater Stephan has created and directed the world premiere of Goldbrick, music and lyrics by Jon Langford, written by Loren Crawford and produced by Walkabout Theater and Collaboraction (at The Building Stage). Other Walkabout credits include: An Unembarrassed Mind (Storefront Theater) Voyaging (co-production with Lucky Plush at the Atheneum Theater); Downsize (14 month run in 12 bathrooms throughout Chicago, [world premiere in Steppenwolf Garage Men’s Room], plus productions in Brazil and Argentina); People Can Fly (Vittum Theater); Prelude (Chopin Theater) and Missing Memaw (Louisville, Chicago and Edinburgh Fringe Festival) all world premieres. Stephan has designed projections for The Tempest and Cherry Orchard both directed by Tina Landau, Sonia Flew (Jeff Nominated) directed by Jessica Thebus, the 2009 Steppenwolf Gala and Of Mice and Men directed by Michael Patrick Thornton all presented at Steppenwolf Theater. Recent projection designs include: Second City Theatricals’ Reverie: Simply Unspeakable at the Montreal Just for Laugh’s Comedy Festival, directed by Dexter Bullard, the late/great Larry Gelbart and Craig Wright’s Better Late featuring John Mahoney presented at Northlight Theater and the Galway Arts Festival, directed by BJ Jones.
